2.5 juta jemaah haji kini berkumpul di Mekah

MEKAH 12 Nov. – Kira-kira 2.5 juta jemaah bakal membanjiri Mekah bagi menunaikan ibadah haji tahun ini, di tengah-tengah kawalan keselamatan ketat dan fasiliti baru termasuk sistem pengangkutan kereta api yang memudahkan pergerakan jemaah bagi mengelakkan kematian akibat keadaan terlalu sesak.
Menteri Dalam Negeri Arab Saudi, Putera Nayef bin Abdul Aziz berkata, beliau tidak menolak kemungkinan al-Qaeda yang cuba menganggu sepanjang tempoh ibadah tersebut dilaksanakan bermula Ahad ini, walaupun kumpulan militan itu tidak pernah menyerang jemaah sebelum ini.
“Kita bersedia untuk sebarang kejadian tidak diingini. Insyaallah, tiada perkara buruk akan berlaku,” kata beliau kepada pemberita semasa ditanya tentang ancaman al-Qaeda yang sedang berkembang di negara jiran, Yemen.
Bilangan jemaah rasmi masih belum diketahui sehingga kini kerana masih ramai jemaah haji tiba dari luar negara.
Bagi memastikan kelancaran ibadah haji musim ini, Arab Saudi membangunkan kemudahan-kemudahan baru bagi menampung bilangan jemaah yang semakin bertambah.
Fasiliti terbaru yang dibina adalah Kereta Api Mashair, pengangkutan aliran ringan yang menghubungkan Mina, Muzdalifah dan Arafah iaitu lokasi-lokasi yang biasanya sesak dengan jemaah.
Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Haji dan Umrah di Dewan Perdagangan Mekah, Saeed al-Qurashi berkata, sebagai permulaan, hanya 35 peratus daripada kapasiti keseluruhan kereta api itu akan beroperasi dan ia mampu menggantikan penggunaan 4,000 bas.
Kematian 364 jemaah pada Januari 2006 dan 1,426 jemaah pada Julai 1990 akibat insiden rempuhan masing-masing di pintu masuk jambatan Jamarat dan terowong di Mina, membuatkan pihak berkuasa negara mengambil keputusan merobohkan jambatan itu dan menggantikannya dengan jambatan baru bertingkat.
Struktur baru itu dibina dengan lebih banyak pintu masuk dan keluar selain dipasang 30 kamera dilengkapi perisian yang mampu mengukur kepadatan jemaah. – AFP
